La Fattoria delle Ripalte farm was built in 1896 by Count Tobler, a Swiss aristocrat who had fallen in love with Italy, so that he could realise his great passion: grow vines and produce outstanding wines.
The entire area ( 420 hectares), that is one of the largest farms on Elba ( the famous Fattoria Tobler later to become the Fattoria delle Ripalte), was completely abandoned by later owners who used the land as a hunting preserve.
Its old fame remained and, in 2002, the owner decided to enhance the winegrowing potential of his land: twelve hectares of new vines now stand in the best positions of the estate. More than half the production comes from Aleatico grapes, the finest and most characteristic of Elba’s vines, produced in the vineyards at Poggio Turco. The result is a sweet and complex “passito” wine which is out of this world.
The vineyard stands on difficult soils, stony and very drained ( most of it terraced): the vine produces little but the quality of the grapes is high. No synthetic chemical products for synthesis are used for phitosanitary treatment and, what little fertiliser there is, is organic.

The first grapes were fermented in a cellar Elba another producer.
The new winery was designed by the great architect Tobia Scarpa and externally looks like a large parallelepiped included in Colle di Gianni . The intent was to disguise the building with the surrounding landscape and at the same time inserted in the scenery of the Mediterranean .

Monolithic appearance of the store front is given by a close knit stone pillars coated Magnet taken from nearby quarries. The building is on three levels and responds to the logic of the transfer of goods by means of gravity while the roof of the cellar is made up of a terrace used for drying the grapes with a breathtaking view of the surrounding vineyards and the coast of ' island. .
The intermediate level is aimed at harvesting operations in addition to hosting the tasting room and barrel room of 240 square meters, while the lower floor has premises for fermentation and pressing, bottling and storage.
The new winery is' a real working tool , all functions have their own space and a logical path to production , there are also laboratory analysis and testing, canteen and changing rooms , office and business area for direct sale.
